Canyon CF SLX 8.0 Speedmax

It took some time but I was able to grab one of the 8.0’s last week when they became available. High thanks to Jay Prashun at Canyon for helming me out, to Canyon for being a Team Zoot Partner, and as always Zoot sports. aren’t had a chance to ride today but it looks terrific. It’s a medium and to get me fit I had to drop to a 170 crank from the 172.5’s I have always ridden with in the past. The bike comes with 175’s for size M which I think is a tough ask for a lot of guys my size who are too tall for a S, so be aware of that. Otherwise I was able to get nice and low and comfortable, looking forward to getting her outside. I added Ceramic Speed rear derailleur and bottom bracket to the mix.

I got the 9.0 and am thrilled. Saddle is different for me. I am used to the old traditional road shape.
My fitter says the 175mm cracks are too long for me too (size m) but I can’t afford to switch right now.
The Zipp NSW wheels are sweet. It takes a bit to get used to carbon rims/ brake pads. I now see why some like disk brakes.
Love the shifters at brakes and extensions.
I have about 130 miles on it and can’t say enough good about it.

Bike looks stunning, congratulations… you must be buzzing to get out there and ride the snot out of it.

Interested by the point you made above about crank length. How were you unable to make your position with the 172.5s? It looks like you have the bike set up with some pad spacers and plenty of seatpost, so not struggling to get low… if you had the slightly longer crank arms how would you not be able to accommodate that by simply dropping everything 2.5mm?

And hey, what’s with all the slack in that Di2 cable? That wants pulling through!

Cheers,
Rich.

Thanks Rich, yes my cable game needs work! We shot the measurements of my current bike fit, a position I was keen to try and replicate as I had tested and tweaked it in the wind tunnel. This frame is more “long and low” then my previous Ceepo Viper. I was too stretched out on the intitial try. As I moved more forward it began to shut down my hip angle and it felt “pinched”. I could have tried 172.5’s from my current bike but my LBS has a nice Dura-ace 170 laying around and when we put it on it felt a lot better so I’m going to give it a crack for now.

Looks awesome Bryan - glad you were able to grab one of these! I was contemplating the change to a Canyon, but have decided not to make the move. Looking forward to how it rides when you get it in the wild!
